A yurt can make a wonderful space for schools, nurseries, universities and outdoor learning projects.
It gives a school a room that feels warm, calm and memorable, without feeling like another ordinary classroom.
Over the years we have supplied yurts to nurseries, schools and universities. They are used as classrooms, quiet rooms, creative spaces, outdoor learning rooms and flexible teaching spaces.
For education projects, we usually recommend an insulated yurt or a Glass Wall yurt. These options provide more comfort, more light and a more finished interior for regular use.

A Different Kind of Classroom
School buildings can feel hard, square and overstimulating. A yurt gives a very different kind of space.
The circular shape, natural chestnut frame, canvas covers and oak crown create a room that feels softer and more settled.
Children often respond immediately to the atmosphere of a yurt. It feels special without being precious, and it can be used for learning, play, reading, music, story time, quiet groups or small gatherings.
Glass Wall Yurts for Schools
Our Glass Wall yurts are especially well suited to education projects.
Glass doors, fixed panels and opening windows bring more light into the yurt and make the space feel open and connected to the outside.
The amount of glass can be adapted to the site and the way the yurt will be used.
Some schools choose a simple glass door and window panel. Others prefer a wider glass frontage to create a brighter and more open learning space.
Insulated for Regular Use
If the yurt will be used through much of the year, we recommend natural wool felt insulation and a bright fire-retardant inner liner.
This makes the yurt warmer, quieter and more comfortable, and gives the interior a cleaner and more finished appearance.
Insulation is especially useful for schools and nurseries where the yurt may be used regularly by children, staff and visiting groups.

Every school site is different. Some yurts are placed in gardens or playgrounds, while others sit within woodland, nursery grounds, university campuses or outdoor learning areas.

Yurts for Nurseries, Schools and Universities
We have made yurts for nursery settings, schools and university projects.
Some are used as small learning rooms. Others become flexible spaces for workshops, group teaching, outdoor education or quiet retreat.
A yurt will not suit every site, but where it is appropriate it can offer something much warmer and more characterful than a conventional temporary classroom.
Size and Capacity
The right yurt size depends on the number of children or adults using the space, the furniture required and whether clear floor area is needed for play, movement or group work.
Smaller yurts can work well for quiet groups, reading, therapy or nursery use. Larger yurts are better suited to classes, workshops, music, movement and shared teaching.

Doors, Windows and Ventilation
School yurts can be fitted with full-glass doors, fixed windows, opening windows and wider Glass Wall sections.
Opening windows are useful where the space will be occupied by groups for longer periods, while fixed glass panels increase daylight without adding unnecessary complexity.
The arrangement can be planned around access, supervision, privacy, views and the intended use of the room.
