Handcrafted Yurts
with Natural Wool Felt Insulation
Our insulated yurts combine a natural chestnut frame, handcrafted solid oak crown, natural wool felt insulation, a fire-retardant inner liner and proofed polycotton outer covers.
The insulation helps the yurt retain warmth in winter, softens summer heat and creates a quieter, more substantial interior.
They are made for year-round living, studios, retreats, guest accommodation and other uses where comfort matters through changing seasons.
“Now I have lived in my yurt for one year and am so happy. It is very comfortable in winter, with the stove keeping it warm through the night, and it feels steady and safe in storms.” Shanti, Portugal
Natural Wool Felt Insulation
Our insulation is made from natural sheep’s wool felt, treated with fire-retardant salts and selected for the conditions in which our yurts are used.
The weight and thickness are chosen for European conditions, and the felt is selected so that it does not wick moisture back into the yurt.
Inside the felt is a bright washable liner made from certified fire-retardant material.
This gives the yurt a clean, light interior and is especially important where a stove will be used.
Designed as an Insulated Yurt
An insulated yurt is not simply a canvas-only yurt with felt added.
The liner, insulation and outer covers are cut and made to work together as a complete system.
The patterns have been developed in our own workshop so the layers fit cleanly around the frame, crown, doors and windows.
The insulation can also be removed if required, while the outer covers continue to fit correctly.
We have been making insulated yurts for more than twenty years and have developed our wooden doors and windows to work with them.
Double-Canvas Roof System
Our insulated and Glass Wall yurts include an additional canvas roof cover above the main outer roof.
This gives extra protection over the insulation and improves durability in rain, wind, strong sun and changing European weather.
Can You Live in an Insulated Yurt All Year Round?
Yes. Our insulated yurts are made for year-round use.
Comfort depends on the climate, platform, heating system, ventilation and how the yurt is used, but natural wool felt insulation makes a considerable difference in both winter and summer.
For more detail, see A Yurt for All Seasons , where we explain how insulation, covers, ventilation and heating work together.
What Is Included?
An insulated yurt includes the natural chestnut wall frame and roof poles, handcrafted oak crown, fire-retardant inner liner, natural wool felt insulation, proofed polycotton wall and roof covers, and the additional outer roof cover.
Wooden doors, fixed windows, opening windows, Glass Wall sections, stove fittings and other details can be chosen according to the yurt size and how it will be used.
Homes, Studios, Retreats and Guest Accommodation
Insulated yurts are well suited to homes, studios, retreats, guest accommodation, glamping sites, garden rooms and other spaces used through more of the year.
They are also used by schools, nurseries and outdoor learning projects.

“Thanks to you and Ratna, I have this incredibly beautiful yurt with plenty of windows, giving me all the light I need for my work as a painter. After the terrible rain we had in Andalucía, the yurt is completely fine.” Camilla, Norway
