Canvas Yurts
Made Properly

Our Standard Yurt is the simplest specification in the Yurt Workshop range.

It has the same natural chestnut frame, handcrafted solid oak crown and careful workshop finish as our insulated and Glass Wall yurts, but without natural wool felt insulation.

It is well suited to seasonal accommodation, garden rooms, studios, retreats, events and other uses where full insulation is not required.

For year-round living, colder climates or more regular residential use, we usually recommend one of our insulated yurts.

Natural Chestnut Frame

The frame is made from natural chestnut, chosen for its strength, flexibility and character.

Its varied colour and grain give the interior warmth and make each yurt slightly different.

The chestnut is shaped and finished in our workshop, with the natural surface left visible rather than hidden beneath paint.

Handcrafted Solid Oak Crown

At the centre of the roof is a handcrafted solid oak crown in our traditional eight-spoke design.

It carries the roof poles, opens the centre of the yurt to light and forms the natural focus of the interior.

Canvas Covers

The covers are made from proofed polycotton, cut and sewn to fit the yurt.

The fabric is treated for water resistance, fire resistance and rot resistance while remaining breathable.

A Standard Yurt has canvas covers without natural wool felt insulation. This makes it lighter and simpler than our insulated specification.

Canvas Colours and Options

We offer three standard canvas colours: creamy white, sand and light sand.

Other canvas colours may be available by special order.

You can choose different wooden door and window arrangements, crown-cover colours and other details depending on the yurt size and how it will be used.

When Is a Standard Yurt the Right Choice?

A Standard Yurt is a good option where the yurt will mainly be used during warmer months or for shorter periods.

It can work well for summer guest accommodation, camping, seasonal glamping, events, garden studios, treatment rooms, workshops and retreat spaces.

It is lighter than an insulated yurt and has fewer layers to handle when the yurt is pitched, dismantled or moved.

Standard or Insulated?

The main difference is the insulation, inner liner and additional roof cover included with our insulated specification.

If the yurt will be used regularly through colder weather, as guest accommodation, as a home or as a year-round working space, an insulated yurt will usually be the better choice.

For simpler seasonal use, a Standard Yurt may provide everything you need without the extra cost and weight of insulation.

“I really want to order one of your yurts. A friend of mine has one of yours from 15 years ago and she hasn't had to do any maintenance or replace anything at all. Insanely good quality.” Dominic, Mallorca
